We'd like to bring you up to date on the recent discussions and actions taken by the Road Hogs Athletic Club's Board of Directors.
On April 23rd the Board unanimously voted to suspend the Club's bylaws. This vote effectively ended the Board's role. Liability has been the principal issue the Club's board has been concerned with for the last two years. In brief, the Board has been trying to resolve how they can protect themselves from law-suits that could arise because of the club's activities.
The Board has explored many options. Could we just buy insurance? Should we incorporate? Should we incorporate as a 501(3)c? Our discussions about and our collective experiences with the many facets of our Club made it easy for us to realize we are just a group of amateur athletes looking to improve with other like-minded individuals. To this end, a simpler structure made the most sense. So the Club has gotten back to its roots: a group of individuals without any formal structure.
On the practical side, what does this mean? First, there are no dues. We are giving the balance of the bank account to two charitable organizations: PAWs and the Dental Center of Stamford. Will there be a Chronicle? Yes. See Laurie Quinn if you would like to work on the Chronicle. Will there be a Web Site? Yes. See Erik Jensen if you want to help out. Will there be parties? Yes. Commander Kraz will lead the Dead Squirrel runs and track work-outs. Will there be trail runs in the winter? Sure. Do you have a favorite trail run you wish to share? Get in touch with Pete Preston or Erik Jensen. If you want to send out a general announcement to the Club's members, let Ed Nolan know.
In short, the Club will continue much as it has before. If you want the club to do anything, send an e-mail. Sell you idea. Get support for it. Organize it. Do it. The Road Hogs are now truly your club.
